Sabotage Studio has announced a major Sea of Stars sales milestone.

In a tweet posted on the official Sea of Stars Twitter account earlier today, Sabotage announced that Sea of Stars sold 100,000 copies within its first day on release.

That’s a pretty impressive number, putting Sea of Stars on par with indie smash hits like Slime Rancher 2 and ahead of sensations like Core Keeper.

The figure counts across all of the platforms that Sea of Stars is available on, meaning PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

Perhaps more impressively, though, Sea of Stars is available on both Xbox Game Pass and the PlayStation Plus game catalog, but the tweet refers specifically to copies sold rather than player numbers, so 100,000 people picked up Sea of Stars outside of subscription services.

If you’ve somehow missed out on the Sea of Stars talk, it’s a JRPG-style adventure created by the Quebec City-based Sabotage Studio.

You might know Sabotage’s name from retro-style platformer The Messenger; indeed, Sea of Stars takes place in the same world as that game, although you don’t need to play either one to experience the other.

Sea of Stars follows the adventures of Valere and Zane, two children born on the summer and winter solstices who must battle a villain known only as The Fleshmancer.

The game takes inspiration from classic SNES-era RPGs like Chrono TriggerBreath of Fire, and Super Mario RPG, and if you’re an RPG aficionado, you’ll probably notice similarities to later RPGs like Golden Sun as well.

In her Sea of Stars review, TechRaptor’s Tanushri Shah awarded the game 7.5 out of 10, praising its “intuitive” combat and “wonderful” soundtrack but criticizing its “lackluster” narrative and lack of an overall “lasting impression”.

You can check out Sea of Stars for yourself right now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
